As designers, we understand difficulties faced by artists who are confronted with problems of layout in terms of the source material frequently given to them. To this end, we offer figurative clipart which utilizes Okara´s Modular Component System^TM to developing clipart. What this means is that we provide the layout designer with complete pieces, but which are also deconstructed into components which can meet the needs of a particular design chal- lenge. The thinking behind this strategy is that the designer may wish to eliminate or retain our backgrounds in a given circumstance.

Grayscale-Aware Images for Optimum Output

As design professionals, we are acutely aware of the problems of outputting color originals on black and white devices such as dot matrix, inkjet or laser printers. Principally, the problem concerns the proper separation of color tints in the original when it is printed or imaged as a monochrome or grayscale object. We have addressed this issue through both testing color originals and modifying same or creating a pure grayscale duplicate when compromise strategies fail to accomplish the task. In other words, the problem is easily solved by adjusting one or more of the problematic tints to create sufficient separation of tones when output as grayscale. In those instances where this is not satisfactory, we recast the original color object purely in gray- scale tints to ensure optimum grayscale output.
